Mud from rainy days? Baking soda to the rescue!

mud stain

Rain may feel like a breath of fresh air to nature, but it's not always fun for your home. Whether you have toddlers happily jumping in puddles, or a dog that loves to roll around in the mud, carpets can quickly turn into a dirty battlefield. But before you panic about those muddy spots, here's a housewife's tip to fix it. The answer is spelt out: baking powder!

Here's how it works:

After a rainy walk or a wet playtime in the garden, muddy feet and paws can quickly create a trail of chaos. But instead of throwing away the carpet or hiding the stains with furniture, try this simple trick:

  1. Step 1: Sprinkle baking soda on the stain
Immediately after the stain appears, take out the baking soda and sprinkle a generous layer over the mud. The baking soda will start to absorb the moisture immediately and help break down the dirt.
  2. Step 2: Let the baking powder work
Be patient! Leave the baking powder on the stain for at least 15 minutes, but the longer you leave it on, the better. Do you have time? Leave it overnight for maximum effect. The baking soda will then soak up all the moisture and prevent the stain from spreading or settling deep into the fibres.
  3. Step 3: Vacuum it up
Once the baking powder has done its magic, it's time to vacuum. Vacuum up the powder, and voilà - the stain is gone! The carpet looks like new and no one would believe that there was just a mud pit there.

Why baking powder?

Baking soda is a real star when it comes to removing stains. Not only is it a cheap and natural cleaning agent, but it's also perfect for absorbing moisture and neutralising odours. If there's one thing you should always have in your pantry for unexpected accidents, it's baking soda.

Extra tips:

If the stain has set and the baking powder can't do the job on its own, mix some baking powder with water to make a paste and rub it into the stain before letting it dry. Then vacuum up the residue when it's dry. Or ask us to help with the home cleaning. To avoid muddy stairwells after storms, you can use regular stair cleaning who keep the entrance clean despite the storm.

Next time the rain pours down and muddy little feet or paws step onto your carpet, take it easy. With baking soda in the cupboard, you'll be ready to face even the dirtiest of challenges.

Cleverly simple - isn't it?
