3 tips for cleaning your mattress

1. Cleaning mattress from stains: baking soda

Baking soda has an amazing property - it drives moisture and dirt out of textiles. That's why you can use baking soda to clean everything from carpets, clothes, sofa cushions to your bed mattress. If you don't have baking soda at home, bicarbonate of soda works just as well. Baking soda and bicarbonate of soda give similar results, the only difference is that bicarbonate of soda contains more acids. So if you're trying to get rid of really tough stains, bicarbonate of soda can give an even sharper result. This housewife tip works on dried-on stains as well as new ones.

Do this:

  1. Sprinkle generously with baking soda all over the mattress
  2. Leave on for a few hours - or leave overnight
  3. Vacuum up excess powder
  4. Air the mattress outdoors. All yellow stains will be gone in no time!

2. Cleaning mattress from odours: vinegar

This method removes stale odours from your bed mattress. All you need is a little vinegar and a few drops of an essential oil. To maintain a clean mattress, you can do this housewife tip regularly. If you have a balcony or veranda, we also recommend airing the mattress from time to time.

Do this:

  1. Pick up an empty spray bottle
  2. Mix 1 dl vinegar, 2 dl water and a few drops of essential oil
  3. Spray regularly over the entire mattress

3. Cleaning the mattress from dust and mites

Mites are animals that are microscopically small. Unfortunately, it is difficult to completely rid your bedroom of mites, but it can help to regularly clean your bed linen and mattress. The easiest way to get rid of mites is to change your bed linen often and wash it at 60 degrees. Mites can also live in the mattress, so you should vacuum it every time you change the sheets. If you are allergic to dust mites, it might be a good idea to invest in a steam vacuum cleaner.
