When spring is around the corner, spring cleaning is essential. a good deep clean is cleansing for its home and soul. It's an end to the gloomy winter, and a beginning of brighter times. But how should you actually go about cleaning out your home? Of course, there is no one right way to do your spring cleaning, but with this list you can get inspiration and tips on how to freshen up your home, patio and clothes.
Spring cleaning - room to room
Living room
- Washing or airing carpets, sofa upholstery and curtains
- Wipe down books, decorations and window sills.
- Cleaning your windows inside and outside.

Bedroom
- Get out the bedspreads and cushions that breathe spring.
- Take this opportunity to clean your mattress! Yes, it does need to be done from time to time. Read how to remove stains, odours and dust from your bed here.
Bathroom
- Clean out your bathroom cabinet and look at the expiry dates of your products. Hair and skin care products usually have a maximum shelf life of 12 months. If you are unsure about the product's shelf life, take a look at the list of ingredients and the symbol that looks like a jar. Next to the symbol there is a number, which indicates how long the product will last. Don't forget to recycle plastic and cardboard!

Kitchen
- Give your fridge a major refresh and start afresh by organise your fridge.
- Clean out and wipe down the shelves in your pantry. Don't forget to check for possible flour beetles!

Wardrobe
Don't forget that your wardrobe could also do with a bit of spring cleaning! Take the opportunity to vacuum and wipe down shelves and drawers in the meantime. And don't forget to buy vacuum cleaner bags so that you are ready when spring cleaning time comes!
- Make sure you wash your winter wardrobe before putting away jackets and shoes. Leather shoes need to be cleaned and then oiled, otherwise you risk cracking the leather.
- Cashmere or wool: Delicate natural materials can be tricky to wash, sometimes dry cleaning is the best solution. But if you're just looking for a refresher, you can rinse the garments in lukewarm water with hand detergent. Don't forget to store natural materials in plastic bags or vacuum bags, to avoid moths or other vermin chewing the fabric!
- Sneakers: Impregnate your new (or old) sneakers, and extend their lifespan.
Spring cleaning of outdoor furniture
Spring is the time of year when outdoor furniture and barbecues come out. Finally, you can invite people to barbecue parties and big dinners again! But first, you need to look after your outdoor furniture and give it a good scrub. How to clean wooden and plastic outdoor furniture:
Cleaning of wooden outdoor furniture:
- Fill a bucket with water and soap. Wipe the furniture with a large sponge.
- Leave to air dry.
- Mould? If there is mould or surface deposits, you can remove it with vinegar (1 litre) and (2 dl) water.
Cleaning of plastic outdoor furniture:
- For plastic outdoor furniture, you can either use: dishwashing detergent, soap or a specialised detergent for your furniture.
- Problems with static electricity? Try wiping the furniture with a regular fabric softener!
